STEINE UND STANDPUNKTE

Auf einer Fensterbank in unserem Treppenhaus hat irgendwann jemand weiße Kieselsteine hingelegt. Immer wieder haben Nachbarn unterschiedlichste Formationen damit gelegt. – Bis ich eines Tages auf die Idee kam, mit den Steinen und den Linien des Fensterrahmens etwas klarzumachen. Dass es beim Verständnis, bei der Erkenntnis dessen, was so ist, dass es dabei ganz wesentlich darauf ankommt, wo man steht; dass es auf den Standpunkt ankommt, wie man etwas versteht.

Ich habe Steine so gelegt, dass sie aus einem bestimmten Blickwinkel die Verlängerung der vertikalen Fensterbegrenzungen bildeten. Kaum aber hatte ich einen anderen Standpunkt eingenommen, hat sich diese Vorstellung der Linienfortsetzung, die Meinung von dem, was ist, als Illusion dargestellt und entpuppt als blickwinkelbedingt.

Nicht nur für das Alltagsleben, für die Kommunikation, sondern auch für die Wissenschaft ist das wichtig und praxisrelevant. Mag es sich dabei auch um eine Binsenweisheit handeln … oft vergisst man das und meine Steinlegearbeit hat den Reiz daran noch einmalmit einfachsten Mitteln zu erinnern.

STONES AND POINTS OF VIEW

On a windowsill in our staircase someone has put white pebbles. Again and again, neighbors laid the most diverse formations with them. - Until one day I had the idea to make something clear with the stones and the lines of the window frame. That in the understanding, in the realization of what is so, that it depends quite essentially on where one stands; that it depends on the point of view, how one understands something.

I placed stones in such a way that from a certain point of view they formed the extension of the vertical window borders. But no sooner had I taken another point of view than this idea of the continuation of lines, the opinion of what is, presented itself as an illusion and turned out to be due to the angle of view.

Not only for the everyday life, for the communication, but also for the science this is important and practically relevant. It may be a truism ... often one forgets that and my stone-laying work has the charm to remind of it once again with the simplest means.
